1. Purpose
These terms govern the use of the Praetor Orientalis website, the purchase of the method (Arabic course, workbooks, audio material, vocabulary and Anki cards, and any options purchased), the use of the online learning space (section 4) and the AI Tutor subscription (section 6).
2. Access to the service
Access to the paid content requires creating an account and paying the amount shown on the checkout page. Payment is made by card through Stripe, in a single instalment. Access is personal, with no time limit, and includes reading the purchased content online and downloading it.
3. Intellectual property
All the content (texts, PDFs, audio files, vocabulary cards, including as displayed in the online space) is protected by copyright. It is reserved for the buyer's personal use: any reproduction, distribution, sharing or resale is strictly prohibited.
4. Online learning space
The student area lets you read the documents online, write your answers in the exercises, annotate pages, follow a planner, review your vocabulary and record yourself to compare your pronunciation with the audio. Your progress, answers, annotations, bookmarks and reviews are saved in your account so that you find them on all your devices. Recordings of your voice stay in your browser: they are never sent to our servers.
To help you keep up the pace, we may send you a weekly summary by email, and reminders when you have not studied for a few days (at most one email every three days). You can turn them off at any time from your account or with the link in each email.
5. Right of withdrawal and refunds
The content of the method is digital content supplied immediately after payment. Beyond what the law provides, we offer you 30 days after your purchase to ask for a full refund, under the following conditions:
- You have neither read online nor downloaded the so-called "advanced" content, marked with a padlock in your account: Modules 4, 5, 6 and 7 (and the download of their audio), parts 2 and 3 of the Arabic course, the Newspaper module, the Lebanese and Emirati Arabic courses, the B1–B2 Dialogues and the Middle East Job Pack.
- The other content can be read and downloaded with no effect on the refund: Modules 1, 2 and 3, part 1 of the Arabic course, the Pronunciation module, the A1–A2 Dialogues, the vocabulary and its guide, the Anki deck and the 4-month programme. Listening to audio online never has any effect.
- The request is made through the refund form available in your account.
- The refund is processed within 5 to 10 business days after approval. It ends access to the content, options included.
6. AI Tutor subscription
The service. The AI Tutor answers students' written questions about Arabic and about the method, based on the Praetor Orientalis courses. It can also correct the answers written in the exercises ("Check" button) and answer about an area of a page that the student has circled: that area is then sent to it as an image. Each question, correction or area sent counts as one question of the quota. It is reserved for students who have bought the method and is available from their account. The answers are generated by an artificial intelligence system (the Claude model, provided by Anthropic): they may contain errors or inaccuracies and do not replace a teacher's advice. The service is for personal use: the account must not be shared, and the tutor must not be used for any purpose other than learning Arabic.
Price and quota. The subscription is monthly, at the price (taxes included) and with the number of questions shown on the subscription page at the time of subscribing. The question quota is reset at each renewal; unused questions do not carry over. A daily limit may apply to keep the service available. If the price changes, subscribers are informed by email at least 30 days before it applies and may cancel before that date.
Payment and renewal. Payment is made by card through Stripe, when subscribing and then automatically at each monthly renewal. The subscription renews automatically from month to month, with no minimum commitment.
Cancellation. Subscribers can cancel at any time, in one click, from the "AI Tutor" page of their account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current monthly period, which has already been paid: access to the tutor is kept until that date and no further payment is taken. A confirmation is sent by email. The current period is not refunded pro rata, except when the right of withdrawal below is exercised.
Right of withdrawal. Under the French Consumer Code, subscribers have 14 days from subscribing to withdraw, without giving a reason, by writing to contact@praetor-orientalis.com. By subscribing, they expressly ask for access to the tutor to start immediately, before the end of that period: if they withdraw, they owe an amount proportional to the period elapsed until their request (article L221-25 of the French Consumer Code), and the balance is refunded within 14 days.
Availability. We do our best to keep the tutor available at all times, but it may be interrupted, in particular for maintenance or if the artificial intelligence provider is unavailable. In the event of a prolonged interruption, subscribers can contact us to obtain appropriate compensation.
7. Liability
Praetor Orientalis undertakes to supply the content described. Users are responsible for keeping their account confidential.

The processing of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to these terms
We reserve the right to change these terms. Any change will be notified by email.
10. Applicable law
These terms are governed by French law. Any dispute will be brought before the competent courts.
