About the author

An engineer working for a local company in the United Arab Emirates, I am not a linguist by training but a hands-on practitioner. Arabic was not essential to my job, but I soon saw it as a major strategic advantage to build trust and truly become part of the local environment.

My path was practical and gradual: I started with Lebanese Arabic, taught myself Standard Arabic, discovered the Gulf dialect, and finally took intensive courses (Standard and dialect) at the French Institute of the Near East (Ifpo) in Beirut.

Today I would put my level at around B2, with a clear preference for spoken Arabic. This method comes from that real experience: what actually works on the ground, tested and refined between Abu Dhabi and Beirut.

“I don't promise you linguistic perfection, but efficiency and real use of the language: being understood, and able to talk about concrete things.”
